Samantha Jacobson was born outside of Philadelphia to her Jewish-American father and English mother who steadily renovated their 100 year old stone house around her and siblings as they grew up. She is primarily based in Austin, TX as a member of the Contra/Common artist collective but continues to split her time in the northeastern US. Jacobson trained in theatrical costume design at Marymount Manhattan College and worked on New York City Broadway & television productions until she relocated to Austin in 2016. Her work continues to be influenced by character (both human and environmental) as she grows her studio and public art practices.

Artist Statement

Samantha's work focuses on the vibrant fortitude of the conscious experience, her subjects existing as portals to alternate truths. With paint and mixed media she creates pieces of captured energy, using texture and color to emphasize the power of existing in our delightfully mysterious universe.

Note: Samantha formerly created works under the pseudonym Sapira Design
